I am all about beautiful chiselled high cheekbones at the moment but unfortunately not all of us are born with the perfect prominent bone structure that lends an ideal palette to apply makeup blusher. The beauty of the cheekbone is it is one of the easiest things to fake, giving you instant striking glamour and lending your face the illusion of an instant face lift. Allow me to introduce you to one of my favourite friends….blush.
The most important thing for this makeup technique is choosing the right colour blush. The blush is meant to act as a shadow creating the illusion of high cheekbones so opt for a tone that is about 2-3 shades darker than your usual skin tone. A matte finish works best for this look and most skin tones will use either a brown or taupe tone.
The best way to discover where this “shadow” blush should be applied is by sucking in your cheekbones, you will see a line form and that falls directly under your cheekbone this is the area that you will be targeting with your brush to create the illusion of high cheekbones. A good quality blush brush is essential for this application not only does it apply the colour evenly but it will help create the correct angle for application. One of the most important things ever taught to me in my make up profession is “dark recedes and light brings out” by following this rule you are able to contour your face and achieve the required illusions.
Take your blush brush and dip gently in your product, tap of the excess powder on to your hand and apply to the shadow line whilst sucking in your cheeks in a sweeping motion. Be sure to blend up towards your ear as to not look as a solid line and blend over the apple of the cheek. This should create the illusion of a cheekbone as the cheekbone is left to look more prominent as it is “light”. To further enhance this take a shimmer/highlighter and apply directly on to your cheekbone above the shadow. My favourite thing to do is to join this line to my highlighting line under the brow creating a < shape. This gives the face an instant lift and a beautiful glow which also looks great in pictures, Just make sure not to overdo it in the day time as the sunlight will pick up the highlighters pigments more.
Faking high cheekbones will drastically change any look by complementing your face and making you look striking and youthful.
