We know how difficult it is to choose makeup eyeshadow colours. When confronted with a million colours on display at your favourite make-up shop, and an over eager assistant, it can be quite daunting!
So with the help of a couple of celebrity make-up pictures, we’ve come up with a few ideas that will help you when you are making your choice.
Most of us are not an artists or even a makeup artist and do not know the first thing about beauty tips, and haven’t done colour theory, but if you pop into your local art shop, you can purchase a little colour wheel. The colour wheel will have all your primary shades on it, as well as secondary shades and tertiary colours. It is nice to see on the colour wheel which shades of colours lie opposite to each other and which are adjacent to each other. The colours opposite to each other are the ones that are going to contrast the most with each other, and therefore will make each other stand out the most.
Two colours that are opposite are blue and brown.
Therefore blue eyes are going to stand out the most with browns. Make sense? It also depends on the intensity of the eye colour, as very dark, deep blue eyes look great with a rich dark brown. Hair colour and skin colour are also vital factors to consider, as a fair skinned blonde with light blue eyes will look nicer with a lighter brown shade.
Megan Fox below looks simply dazzling with her dark brown brows and dark brown eye shadow bringing out her gorgeous blue eyes.
Other makeup tips – peachy and orangey colours are also good on blue eyes. It is nice to use a bit of these and mix in a bit of dark brown for a bit more definition.
If your eyes are green or hazel, mauve or purple is going to suit you best. The green in a hazel eye is often brought out best with a bit of a purple shade. I have often had ladies with hazel eyes remark that they never realized that they had green in their eyes, until purple eyeliner or eyeshadow was used on them. For a soft, day time look without to much colour, light greys and lilacs also look good. Navy liner works to enrich a green eye too, as well as deep burgundy,s and dark grape colours. Experiment with a few of these colours, taking your skin and hair colour into account to see what suits you best.
A dark rich burgundy below enhances the green in Angelina Jolies’ eyes beautifully!
Now, Brown eyes and sexy eyelashes can get away with pretty much anything! Brown eyes don’t really clash with anything and one can really have fun with them. I like to add a bit of colour to liven up brown eyes, and not just put brown back on ! Experiment with dark greens, navy colours or even fun turquoise shades!
Salma Hayek, below, oozes sensuality with a light taupe on her lids and sexy black eyeliner and lashings of black mascara.
A light shimmery gold is also visible on her lower lash line.
• Also good to consider is your outfit. Just because you are wearing a specific colour dress for example, doesn’t mean you have to replicate that colour on your eyes.
• Carefully consider what colours enhance your eyes, and work around those. Practice makes perfect!
