Last week we had the amazing opportunity, not only to meet up with up with some of Cape towns finest makeup artists, but also to meet Tia Hebron, Education executive at Bobbi Brown! Tia is based in the big apple, but this sassy New Yorker travels the world educating make-up artists and also Bobbi Brown customers and fans, on their fabulous ranges!
So what do we learn that we can pass on to guys?
LOTS! Here goes!
First up: Skin.
2. Tia applies foundation, starting from the centre of the face, working outwards, ending at the jaw-line. She says; “The days of taking your foundation onto the neck are over!”
We agree! Besides it just gets messy, and goes all over your collar or scarf. If your foundation is the correct colour, there is no need to carry it past your jaw.
3. The darkest part of your foundation should always be your forehead.
4. When applying concealer onto the skin, push the concealer onto the skin with a brush. This works well when concealing under-eye circles or pigmentation. (we find even pressing it onto the skin with your fingers is great, as your fingers ‘warm’ the foundation and it goes into the skin and “finds its place” as Tia would say) N.B. Don’t wipe the concealer ever, remember you are specifically covering certain spots or circles with the concealer and you have ‘placed’ it where it needs to be, so no wiping. You do not want it to disappear. Simply press it gently into the skin if you want to blend it.
5. Something for you luscious, darker skinned ladies out there – Tia’s favourite foundation? ‘Walnut!’ Its reddish brown, warm undertone is perfect for a South African lady of colour! Also great for ‘bronzing’ fair skins.

Next up…
These amazing new metallic long wear, cream shadow, was showcased by Tia and her expert blending skills! The key to using these is to bled, blend, blend! And fast! Before they dry! A good, stiff blending brush is essential! It will be worth the effort though, as they luscious liners hug the eyes and stay put just about all day!
It’s also great for all skin types, even mature skins, with its superb, velvety texture. The colours range from silvers, lilacs, blues, bronzes and champagnes, to a gorgeous soft gold, namely ‘goldstone 10.’ A must have! Delicate and subtle, great for using on the inner corners of the eyes by the tear ducts, to ‘open’ the eyes, or for lining bottom eye-lids for a gorgeous, soft shimmery effect!
Eye-brows!
Here are Tia’s favourite 4 colours for eye-brows. So if you having trouble finding the correct shade to fill in your brows, head off to a Bobbi Brown counter near you, and check these out! One of these will work for you!
1. ‘Grey’ – great for dark blondes
2. ‘Blonde’ – great for fair skins and milky blondes
3. ‘Rich Brown’ – brunette
4. ‘Flint’ – perfect for darker, African skins!
This also great for any aspiring make-up artist, because if you have these four eyeshadow colours in your kit, you just about covered for any eventuality! Remember- eye- brows frame the face and are a very important feature, if the most important! Apply these shadows with a firm, stocky angle brush from Bobbi Brown, and Voila!
HOT TIP!!!!!!!!
For tattooed eye-brows that have gone awry, and may be looking a bit ‘blue-ish,’ use an eye-shadow colour with a reddish under-tone to neutralize the blue tinge! Try Bobbi Browns ‘Tan’ or ‘‘Taupe’ shades. X
