This time of year always brings beautiful decorations, fun family memories and Christmas fashion trends, especially nail art. For Christmas last year, I rocked out a very pretty snowflake nail art design that had my whole family going “ooo, aaaa”.
This year I have been thinking about why Christmas is portrayed the way it is. You know, the whole Christmas tree, snow men, sitting around the fireplace singing Christmas carols and drinking eggnog thing. That is definitely not what I do around Christmas time. I am usually running around in shorts, swimming in the pool and eating watermelon.
The image of Christmas is definitely catered for those with a colder climate, this time of year, so for my nail art inspiration; I decided to design an African Christmas look.
I have always loved the amazing beaded work that some African cultures make on clothing, dolls, placemats and event some Christmas ornaments. I took the beads as inspiration and painted my nails so that it gave the same effect.
I chose Christmas colours, red, green and white, and took my dotting tool (you can use a toothpick or an old ballpoint pen) and dotted on the pattern. It’s that simple! I did a variation on my ring finger and dotted a yellow star surrounded by white.
I am really happy at how the design turned out and feel that it has more of a South African Christmas feel to it, rather than snow and fat Santa suits.
I hope you try this easy African Christmas nail art design
