What beauty tool do you prefer to use to apply liquid foundation? Different techniques have different pros/cons.
Foundation brush:
• A decent foundation brush can be quite expensive
• Some insist that a brush gives the smoothest finish, others say it can leave streak marks – Technique is important
• Works well for medium to heavy coverage
• Constant maintenance of the brush is important
Makeup sponge:
• Inexpensive, but need to be replaced regularly to minimize bacteria build-up
• Tend to absorb a lot of product
• Apply a thin layer of product to skin
• A damp sponge is better for lighter application
• Works well to blend foundation after application with brush/fingers
Fingertips:
• Wash your hands before to remove excess oil
• Warms up your foundation so that it “melts” into your skin
• Allows good control
• Gives a natural finish
Ultimately, your choice will depend on your personal needs and preferences. I’ve tried all three, and I find that fingers work the best for me. (I know some people aggressively warn against using fingers for applying foundation because fingers are “dirty/oily/full of bacteria”. I have combination, acne-prone skin and haven’t had a significant breakout since switching from my brush to using my fingers (four months ago). I use my fingers to massage in my moisturizer and sunscreen as well, so as long as you clean your hands before touching your face, I don’t see the problem. In any case, washing my hands before I touch my face is sure to spread less bacteria than brushes/sponges that only get washed once every week or two weeks.)
