This nail art design is inspired by fishnet stockings and big red lips. Wear this proudly on Valentines Day, to show off your inner femme fatale.
Start off with a base coat to protect your natural nails from staining. I used Sally Hansen’s Salon Manicure base coat. Then paint your nails a nude colour to form a nice neutral base for the actual art you will be painting on. I used Chanel’s Beige polish as it is the closes polish I had that matched my skin. I cheated a bit and used Yardley’s Speed finish nail drying spray in between coats, to speed up drying time.
The next step is quite tricky as you will need a thin detailing brush or striper. You will be making diagonal lines crisscrossing each other to make the ‘fishnet’ effect. You could use a toothpick but it might take longer to achieve neat lines. I used my bundle monster nail art striping brush and watered down acrylic paint. I chose purple as my power colour!
Next step, randomly paint luscious red lips with a toothpick. Lips are a bit tricky to perfect. I just went with a heart shape but elongated the sides to make rough lip shapes. You can stick to one per finger, of do a bunch scattered across the nail, as long as you think it looks good!
Lastly, outline all your lips with a black polish and toothpick. This will just make them bolder and more visible. Then put a small white dot or triangle on each lip to add animation. Try put the dots on the same side of all lips (as if line was shining off at an angle) to make it more realistic. Again, I used acrylic paint for all of these details.
Once everything has dried, you can finish off with a strong top coat to seal your design. I used Sally Hansen’s Salon Manicure top coat.
Please remember that all nail art designs are a personal thing. You don’t have to use the same colours or have the exact same number of lips on each nail, as mine. I share my designs to give you inspiration for your own nail art concepts.
