Clinique Anti Blemish Solution Review – Clinical Clearing Gel
I had the pleasure to review the clinical clearing gel action product in the Clinique anti blemish solution range.
I have to admit, I am normally sceptical when it comes to anti-blemish or any product that promises even tone or clearer skin because I have wasted money so many times as I haven’t found a product that works properly. However, the Clinique clinical clearing gel worked to an extent, actually better than most products I used.
Upon applying a layer over my face, the gel would tighten my face like a mask & it gives off an alcohol smell, then after 15 min, that tighten feeling softens and my skin feels soft and “happy” and it looked clearer and much better. I noticed that after a few days, I would not get any new pimples as I would normally get. The occasional one or two I got while using this product would disappear after three days where it would normally disappear after a week or a week and a half.
I am very happy with this product, as I said, it made my skin soft and clear. I am sure if it wasn’t for my old blemishes, it would have been soft and smooth. But who knows? Maybe if I purchased the entire 3 step system, the results would be much better. I will definitely recommend this product and I am definitely considering in buying the Clinique Clinical Anti-Blemish Solutions 3-step System.
Though I am, and always have been, a great fan of Clinique, it's not often that I'm impressed by a product - enough to want to buy more in that range for myself!

My Review
Packaging: The gel comes in a green/mint bottle with a white cap. The bottle has a small opening that allows you to squeeze out a pea-sized amount of product suitable to dab on blemishes.
I had the pleasure of being chosen to review the Clinique Anti-Blemish Solution Clinical Clearing Gel.
I have been using the Clinique product for 3 weeks now, and I have been documenting my thoughts about this product.
Although I'm fortunate enough to not have seriously spotty skin, I do suffer from hormonal breakouts and acne blemishes when I'm a) tired b) stressed c) slept with makeup or when it’s that time of the month.
In the first week of using the product, I noticed that my blemishes would be less red and inflamed, but they still were popping up all over my cheeks. In the second week I continued applying all over my cheeks on old blemishes or new ones that would feel like rearing their ugly heads at me. This gel would prevent them from forming, while calming the ones that were already there.
Today marks the third week of using the product, and it dries up the blemishes/acne and that actually helps coz that means I am not tempted to squeeze the life out of the zits, leading to less scarring! WIN!!!
I find the gel texture isn’t sticky at all and perfect for applying under makeup which is exactly what I look for in a spot treatment, especially as during the day I would like it to be treated but also covered. On the skin it feels cooling but does not sting or irritate my skin and shouldn't as it has been allergy tested as well as being fragrance free.
I am somewhat put off by the nasty alcohol smell that you get when you use the gel, I'm glad that it does not linger. As soon as the gel is dry, you cannot smell the alcohol anymore.
Did the product work for me? Absolutely! Would I recommend it to friends and family with similar issue? Most definitely
Pros:- The small opening which gives you the perfect product
- The perfectly sized bottle, that I can fit into my makeup bag
- The fast action of the gel to dry out blemishes
-Although it seems pricey and the bottle small, a little goes a long way

I had the pleasure of being chosen as part of the 30 women to review this product. (Please note that I've been documenting my thoughts over the 3-week time that I've been using this product)
I have been using the Clinique product for over two weeks now, this is the third week of me using it and preparing to write my final review about the product.
Although I'm fortunate enough to not have seriously spotty skin, I do suffer from hormonal breakouts and acne blemishes when I'm a) tired b) stressed c) slept with makeup or when it’s that time of the month.
When I first received the product I thought I would run through the whole bottle in the 3 weeks that I got to use it. And boy was I wrong....
The clearing gel is clear with a very strong alcohol smell, I'm guessing that's the Salicylic Acid?
I find the gel texture isn’t sticky at all and perfect for applying under makeup which is exactly what I look for in a spot treatment, especially as during the day I would like to be treated but also covered. On the skin it feels cooling but does not sting or irritate my skin and shouldn't as it has been allergy tested as well as being fragrance free.
In the first week of using it, I noticed that my spots would be less red and less inflammed after using the clearing gel, but I would still breakout. I used this mostly on my cheeks, as that is where I breakout mostly. The Clinique anti-blemish clearing gel would dry out the whiteheads and therefor I wouldn't have the urge to squeeze them which would in turn leave nasty marks on my face.
I continued using the gel into my second week, both morning and night and I would see less and less spots. The ones that were there were less painful and red. Win!
Today (11th July) marks the end of the third week that Ive used the gel and now I need only spot apply and not have it all over my cheeks...
Did it work for me? Absolutely! Would I recommend it to someone else to try? Why the hell not?
Pros:- The small opening that gives the right amount of product
- The fast action work
-It may seem like a small bottle but a little goes a long way
I was super excited when BB said this product was the new best thing on the market. I had a really bad breakout of an allergic reaction. Initially this product dried out the marks that appeared. My that time of the month break outs were also way less than normally. The existing blemishes didn't really have any change in color.
My bottle is now in half and i do not know if i would buy a new one. It is also pretty expensive if you are living on a tight budget.
Good to remove current blemishes, to remove past blemish marks no.
After having tried countless creams to remove my acne scars around my T zone, I was given the opportunity to try Clinique anti blemish solutions clearing gel which worked like a charm. After 2 weeks of continuous use I found my scars were becoming lighter. I wouldnt say that they disappeared altogether but have definitely lightened and im sure with a little more use it will dissappear.
I now feel more confident now that I don't have to apply huge amounts of concealer to cover up.
CONS: the stong smell of alcohol upon application
Thanks bb gor the opportunity to review this product.
Blemishes are the bane of ones existance and unfortunately its something that the majority of us have to encounter no matter how old you are.It could be hormonal, due to a bad cleansing routine, environmental factors, or due to bad eating habits and for some stress is also a factor.Whatever the reason we all share the common feeling of having our confidence diminished the minute we see that blemish rearing its ugly head. And that feeling of desperation causes us to try everything in sight hoping each time that the product will work only to be let down each and everytime.I know I've taken antibiotics ,prescription treatments amongst many that were far too harsh for my sensitive skin and only aggravated the problem further.I even tried dabbing spots with toothpaste!I am blighted by hormonal outbreaks.Since these aren’t really related to products, lifestyle or diet, it’s so iritating to know they will arrive like clockwork every month, and undo all my good skincare regime.Clinique is synonymous with exceptionally high quality products that are also allergy free and I'm so lucky to have received the new Anti Blemish Solution Clearing Gel from Clinique. This product aims to target problems with a 4-in-1 clearing complex, combining exfoliating and anti-blemish agents with sebum-controlling and anti-irritant ingredients. So does this clearing Gel work?Absolutely! It is one of those products that requires a few weeks of daily application to really reap the rewards.Instructions say apply to entire face but I applied the gel directly on the blemish. It takes the sting out of certain blemishes and can help control redness by calming those fiery blemishes as well as reducing excess oil and minimises the size of the blemish safely!
It's such an effective clearing gel and really does help to reduce any swelling or inflammation surrounding those lurking blemishes. But how is it effective? Its packed with the best blemish fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid to help unclog pores and decongest,Laminaria Saccharina to help balance oil production and Sea Whip Extract to help calm, soothe and to reduce redness. So no more dark days this product is a winner in my eyes
Clinique's Anti Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel
After using this product for a month, I must confess I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't see more dramatic results.
I still got pimples, and for a while I thought it was worse than before I started using the product. However, I think the product might be responsible for the pimples appearing worse while in the process of removing impurities (which is why I still got pimples). So, it appears as if "it gets worse before it gets better", but it's actually causing your skin to become blemish-free from the inside out. Almost like it's actually flushing out the "nasties".
I noticed that the directions on the bottle states "spot-apply if you are using another leave-on blemish treatment", which suggests to me that it should be used in conjunction with you current blemish treatment, whatever that may be. In my case, I use a tea tree oil touch stick. Does that imply that the product only works optimally when used together with other anti-blemish products? Perhaps.
With prolonged use, I am sure it will make a difference.
I will continue to use it until the bottle is empty - who knows, perhaps I'm being too hasty or impatient. Maybe the whole idea is that the product works best when used daily over a prolonged period of time.
As we all know, there are no "quick fixes" for healthy skin.
So once again I decided to leave my review until the very last few days to be able to provide feedback on whether the Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Gel really did deliver. I am so glad I did, as having waited it turned what would have been a negative review into a positive one. It has been 1 month of diligently using the product every day and night and I must say I am very thrilled with the results.
The gel comes in a plastic bottle with twist off lid and is available in 15ml and 30ml sizes. It is quite pricey but considering it is of clinical strength, it is far more convenient to get this over the counter than get a dermatologists prescription for another product. That said, I haven't even used a third of the bottle yet either. It is very light textured, smoothes on easily and is rapidly absorbed. A faint alcohol smell lingers around for a while after use which is fine considering you get a strong whiff when you first open the bottle giving the impression it will be harsh on your skin. You are left with skin that has refined pores and a slight stinging sensation. It took the full month for the pimples I had previously to disappear and the great thing is that they did not leave any of their tell tale trademark scars behind this time. I am also glad to report that there are no new blemishes lurking under the surface, waiting to erupt.
Will continue with this until the tube is finished in another 2 months or so to see whether it continues to deliver consistent results with continued use.
Luckily, I no longer have the absolutely awful breakouts and acne I had as a teenager, but I still get breakouts as a result of stress and hormonal fluctuations, so I was excited to see if this product could help.
The first thing you will notice when applying this product is it contains A LOT of alcohol. It evaporates quite quickly, so you have to apply the product in sections to work it in before it dries. Obviously, because of the alcohol, it will dry your skin out (which, if you have pimples, you want it to do) so it's important to follow up with a good non-oily moisturiser afterwards.
In the month I've been using this product, the number of breakouts I've had has been less than normal. Breakouts have also been less severe, and heal a lot quicker. When a pimple does sneak through (curse you, hormones!), applying this gel to it twice a day stopped it from getting big and minimized post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. I also noticed that the small under-the-skin bumps I usually have on my forehead are less obvious.
Overall, I would recommend giving this product a try if you are having a problem with breakouts!
i received the clinique anti-blemish solutions clinical clearing gel to review from beauty bulletin.I was so excited to have been given this opportunity because i have heard so much about how good clinique products are and i am glad to say that it is all true.despite the small size of the product it is worth the price.
appearance:before application the gel is clear and has an alcohol smell but dont worry it does not harm the skin.
directions of use: you have to apply a thin layer to your entire face twice daily after cleansing.
after applying it for the first time my once really oily skin became smooth with a matt finish that lasted the whole day which was so amazing because compared to the other products i have used my skin went back to being oily within a couple hours.i noticed a difference within a day my pimples started going down and the marks i had became more lighter.after about two weeks i finally had clear skin!! i was so happy because i never believed i would have good skin after giving up from having perfect skin as a teen.i would recommend this to all teen girl with acne problems and to all ladies still suffering with acne prone skin. thank you so much beauty bulletin for giving me this opportunity to review this product. :)
I was absolutely ecstatic when I received this product to review through Beauty Bulletin. I have always wanted to try Clinique as they have various products for correcting dark marks and I have been extremely self conscious of the appearance of my facial skin (especially as I am not big on wearing full make-up everyday).
I have used the product for 3 weeks, day and night as directed. I was hoping that it would clear up my uneven skin tone a bit, however it is with great disappointment that I have to say I do not see the results I wished or thought I would. The one thing that this product did do was get rid of spots at they appear, which I do not have a great problem with but it helped.
I found the product to be a bit harsh on the skin and also the smell of the product very overpowering, indicative of its harshness. This did however start improving by week three as I found it less of a burning sensation when applying same. I was very surprised however that despite its harsh appearance it did not dry out my already dry skin even more - that was good.
Perhaps using this product together with other Clinique products will yield better results faster.
The verdict - bit disappointed, but happy I got the chance to try the product. Not sure if I am willing to pay the cost of the product to try again and hope results will improve with more continuous use - three weeks of using the product has not sold me on going out and buying it.
Clinique Anti-Blemish Solution Clinical Clearing Gel
They say first impressions last and just by judging the packaging of this solution, it is slick and classy, enticing me to buy. The strong alcohol smell it gave off as I opened the twist top, plastic bottle really put me off making me doubt its effectiveness. It made me think this was going to leave my skin stripped of all moisture, dry and susceptible to more breakouts.
Fortunately from the first day I used it, as an all over treatment twice a day, it prevented my overactive glands from secreting as much sebum as it usually does and the pus deep in my skin from turning into cystic acne. After 2 weeks of continuous use, I am happy to report that my pimples are all under control and do not flare up if they do reach the surface, skin is far less shiny and pores not so prominent. I do get the occasional breakout and oil is still definitely there but the operative word is that it is all under "control". If you are an acne sufferer acne will continue to be there waiting for an opportunity to blemish your looks so have to stop it in its place.
Overall, I am reasonably impressed by the results I received from this product. I would recommend it to those who have a serious problem controlling acne and can afford to fork out a significant amount of money.
So lets begin with the bad news first! We all have this impression that acne was just an ailment that affected us in our teens and maybe for those of us unfortunate to have inherited really bad genes, in to our twenties and thirties. Well I have news for you! Acne can affect you even after you have crossed over from youth, to mid life and into old age. Without giving my age away, I can assure you that even after the raging hormones are under control, acne can come back and attack your face with a real vengence! To add insult to injury, you have to contend with scarring alongside fine lines and wrinkles. No anti-ageing formula is designed to control oil, so you are left with a dilemma of moisture causing breakouts and dryness by acne solutions causing acne and fine lines too.
With this challenge in mind I set out to test the Clinique anti blemish gel treatment although I was a bit sceptical about the results I would get. Well at least ladies there is light at the end of this dark tunnel! If used correctly, this product can make skin look smooth and silky. I chose to use it as a spot treatment during the day as I have to have my SPF and moisture. Don't want more wrinkles and skin cancer due to sun even if it is at the cost of acne. Whilst using my anti ageing products with this gel, I found it to be extremely effective in reducing the inflation in a matter of days. I used it as an all over gel at night to reduce sebum. My skin is looking a lot healhier and the bonus I have found with this gel is that my pores are tighter and my fine lines and wrinkles appear less noticeable. I think I got the bonus effect I was not expecting with this product and I am absolutely thrilled that there have been no more breakouts to report of late. I can say it is safe for use on all types of skin and goes well recommended.
I have used this product for 3 weeks. I found the smell quite overpowering and when applying the gel to my spots it stung. I found it abrasive and pulled my skin tight over the applied area. However within a few days I noticed a marked difference, my spots were disappearing in most places. I did find however that the product seemed to bring impurities out to the surface, so found I had the odd white head popping up, which was a good thing...better out than in I say! Overall I would recommend this product, as it did seem to help my skin look a lot better than before. The only downside is that Clinique products are pricey and so I as a single Mom would not be able to buy their products very often.
I've been using the product religiously for 10 days. After the first 2 days of application, my skin was peeling quite a bit, which i did not particularly mind, but I was relieved that it cleared up quickly. I decided to rather spot-apply, which proved a lot more 'gentle' for my sensitive skin. Initially I found the product quite drying, with a strong astringent smell. However, I liked the easily-absorbed, gel-like texture.
I changed my face wash after 1 week of using the Clinique product and immediately noted a difference in the way my skin felt and reacted to the anti-blemish product. I suppose that to obtain optimal benefit from this product it is best used in conjunction with the other complimentary anti-blemish Clinique products.
The verdict - I noted a slight difference, not so much in lightening of blemishes -> 10 days is too soon to tell, but I do see an improvement in my skin's texture and a reduction in pore size. With prolonged use AND in conjunction with the appropriate face wash and moisterisers - this product could be a hit.
*I received a trial of this product, however the product is expensive relative to its size, hence the 3 rating.
I was one of the lucky ladies to receive this product to test & review from Beauty Bulletin. It has been just over two weeks since using the product & I have seen such a difference in my skin. My pores seem visibly reduced, skin redness is reduced & my blemishes diminished in as little as 2 days.
For the first week the solution was applied both day & night. From the second week I started using it at night only. It is better to spot the treatment on using alternate clean fingers in each problem area, I noticed that if you simply use it as you would a normal moisturizer the old blemish goes away and a new one appears this is due to bacteria spreading from one area to another. The results have been good so far but dotting on the gel works best with light patting/rubbing onto the skin - a little goes along way so please don't get carried away no matter how severe your skin problem is or else you will end up with a sort of thick gel mask effect feeling on your skin.
Clinique Anti-Blemish Solution Clinical Clearing Gel
I've been using the Clinique Anti-Blemish solution clinical clearing gel for 2 weeks now and my skin looks worse than ever. Not sure if I'm allergic, because the solution burns my skin after application and my skin goes red for a few minutes. I am not impressed with this product.
I'm disappointed with this product. When I started using it a week ago, I had a few mild blemishes with one very noticeable one. Although the most noticeable blemish was somewhat diminished the next day, I had more noticeable blemishes than before I started using the Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel. After using this on my entire face twice a day for 2 days with much discomfort, I tried using it as a spot treatment, with no improvement. Using this product has senstitized my skin and I'm now dealing with breakouts, redness and flakiness. I was very excited about the inclusion of salicylic acid and a few other beneficial ingredients, but this is overshadowed by the use of alcohol and witch hazel which are known skin irritants. Alcohol makes up most of this product and it is very apparent on opening the product. It has a nice texture; a light gel that is easily absorbed, but that's the limited joy of my experience. The packaging simple and "clean", but not ideal for preservation of the product. Unless you can squeeze some out and close it while holding that squeeze without letting more product out, air will get in, and render the product less effective over time.
Clinique's Anti Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel
Day 14 using the product and I think I may just be loving it soon. So far, the pimples have disappeared and that alone is wonderful. Unfortunately, the redness is still there and I fear it's not going to go away. I will continue to use the product and report back again. Current photo without makeup ...
Clinique's Anti Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel
(Updated: June 23, 2014)
First off, let me say that I ? Clinique! I used Clinique for several years until it got too pricey for me. I love their products- it's hypoallergenic, which is exactly what my sensitive skin needs.
The jury is still out as I have only been using the product for 10 days, but so far there is no marked improvement in my skin and I am still getting pimples, which would normally have stopped after applying my usual tea tree blemish stick.
The clinique formula is a clear gel, smells a bit of alcohol once out of the container, but dries quickly and then has no fragrance at all. After application, I found that my skin was a bit stiff at first, but as it dried, it softened until you didn't know it was there.
You can use it in two ways - apply twice a day on clean skin, or use over makeup by dabbing the solution. I tried both, and found that the latter was quite nice as it didn't move my foundation at all. It seems to get absorbed instantly.
I wish I had a chance to rant and rave about it, but so far the jury is still out and I will update this review again towards the first week or July. Perhaps a noticeable difference will be seen then.
When I initially started using the Clinique Anti Blemish gel I was put off by the strong smell of alcohol which made me wonder about how harsh the product was going to be, but I'm glad I persevered as the product showed results.
The product offers itself as both an overall face product and a topical product for specific blemishes. As an overall face product I don’t think I could use it as frequently as Clinique advises as I found that it dried my skin out. This is a good thing once in a while, but not on a regular basis.
I suspect I will more frequently use this product topically on specific blemishes as this was where I saw the most results. Blemishes reduced quite rapidly and then went away far quicker that normally. This also stopped me from pushing the blemishes and scarring my skin.
Just one observation is that Clinique advises that this product can be “leave on” but I would not advise one uses it at a time when one needs to leave the house as it is visible and also feels a little weird on the skin. I chose to rather use the product in the evening and then wash it off in the morning before I went out again.
I would advise that anyone who suffers from the odd blemish at certain times in the month keep this product on their shelf as it is a handy tool to getting rid of horrid blemishes quickly and without damaging one’s skin.
Clinique Anti Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel
(Updated: June 23, 2014)
I absolutely fell in love with this product from the time it touched my skin! It immediately makes you feel like your pores are getting cleansed and impurities are oozing out. As soon as you apply it, your face begins to sort of tighten and soon it disappears below the surface. There is a strong odor almost alcoholic but it fades away in no time! I used it just twice and my skin looks brighter and CLEARER at the same time. Being pregnant with my hormones all over the place I really needed help with clearing my pregnancy acne and this certainly gives me hope! It's safe to use under your makeup but just in case you are prone to allergies and things make sure you test it out at a tiny part of your neck where it won't show. I'm so excited to see the results of what this little bottle is going to do and I'm so certain that I'm going to be thrilled with the results! Quality product after a long search!
