Last year the ex-Capetonian and now the Paris-based celebrity fashion blogger shared with us her personal beauty secrets and now we just got scoop that she tied the knot (and in style) to a handsome French man. We wanted to know all about her wedding – what did the famed blogger wear, who did her makeup? What was her choice of looks and why?
Well to start off, in France before getting married religiously one has to have a civil wedding ceremony first – while it can be quite the affair it’s worth every second! You get to be pampered twice, have 2 dresses and 2 days of celebrations….
I got up early the morning of 3 June and headed straight to my mother-in-laws beloved Parisian hair salon (a salon straight out of the 1970’s with leopard print seats and all!) and they did my hair and make-up Aubrey Hepburn style – loose yet voluminous. I chose this look as it had a touch of the old Hollywood glamour to it – and if on my actual wedding day I was to look like a princes, then I wanted on my civil wedding day to look like an old-time movie star! I even accessorized with a pair of Chanel sunglasses…
Traditionally one wears a hat, but I decided on an over-sized pink-bowed Alice band instead – and instead of a bouquet, I decided to carry a clutch purse adorned with pink fabric flowers, which I stitched together the night before….
I then slipped on a Valentino dress and a pair of Valentino heels, went on a quick photoshoot with my husband-to-be along the river Seine and then we made our way to the city hall in the 7th district of Paris where all our friends and family who flew in from all over the world greeted us with cheers!
The famed politician, the lovely Rachida Dati, conducted our ceremony which was then followed by champagne and cupcakes in an art gallery across the road from our house …
Three days later everyone flew to Monaco for the big day. We got married in a private villa on the port of Cap d’Ail (a small commune bordering Monte Carlo) – the setting was simply breathtaking with the city lights in the distance and the sea all around us…
My dress was made-to-measure by Paris-based Scottish designer David Purves and was made of pure French silk and tulle. My close friend Pring (http://www.pringparis.com) who is a well known Paris-based American/Thai shoe designer designed the shoes especially for me – they are truly one of a kind: silver in colour and Swarovski crystals cascading off the heels with fuchsia pink soles….
My makeup was done by another close friend, French celebrity make-up artist Celine Perez who gave me a natural yet bright look and finished it off with a swoosh of glitter dust over the arms and chest. With regards to my hair, I went for the fresh ponytail look…with a single flower to give it a Mediterranean touch… As my dress was already quite sumptuous I wanted to keep the rest of my look bright and uncomplicated…
As for my bouquet, my husband designed it! It was a stunning surprise receiving a bouquet of white orchids and rhinestones just before coming down the isle…
The ceremony itself was beautiful in every way – my husband handsome as ever, my 5 flower boys and 2 flower girls cute beyond words, my mother and my new in-laws beaming, my 4 bridesmaids and 1 brides-man in chiffon peach looked awesome (I still can’t believe how naturally they pulled off this look – ….mmmm actually they will probably get me back one day!) and my friends and relatives who came from Paris and across the world to be with us turned our party into a celebration I shall never forget.
My husband then surprised me with a magnificent display of fireworks over the sea – and I was left simply dazzled, amazed, lucky and thankful to have had a week that went beyond my wildest dreams!
