Oud is having a moment of late with some of the biggest fragrance houses adding this expensive oil to their scents.
What on Earth is Oud?
Oud or Agarwood as it is also known, is rumoured to be the most expensive oil in the world due to its rarity and cost to farm. It is found in the heartwood of the Agar tree, which is commonly found in India and SouthEast Asia. It is produced when the wood of the Agar tree become infected by a certain mould. To protect itself the tree produces a dark, fragrant resin, otherwise know as Oud. Historically, Oud was used by the Chinese, Arabian and Indian fragrance folk as an incense and is said to have healing powers. Nowadays we can find it in some of our favourite fragrances from the likes of Tom Ford to Gucci, thanks to its woody (obviously), hypnotic and alluring scent.
