Hair removal

I hate hair on my body and hair removal is such a hassle.  Let’s break down the ways to remove unwanted and unsightly hair.

Shaving:
Certainly the quickest and easiest way to get rid of hair in unwanted areas like legs, arm pits, bikini but it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.  Here’s why, razor burn and ingrown hairs ladies!  Try to exfoliate the area beforehand like your legs.  This will prep the skin and remove dead skin cells help eliminate ingrown.  Shaving your lady garden has its own set of challenges as the hair follicle is thicker and razor burn can be a lot more irritating.  First things first, use a shaving cream for women; soap is out of the question.  Invest in good quality razors like Schick Quattro for women or Gillette Venus.  Disposable are an absolute no no!

Waxing:
This option involves more maintenance and costs more however effects are longer lasting as the hair is being pulled out from the root.  Waxing areas like your top lip are easy enough to do and once you are used to it, it’ll take less than 5mins.  Waxing areas like your legs and bikini line are difficult if you going the DIY route.  There are drug store options available for these areas but its just so much easier having someone else do the pulling.  Some of the advantages of waxing include:
•    Large areas can be done at one time.
•    Regrowth is fine and less over time when compared to shaving.
•    You are free from hair for a longer periods of time.

Waxing can also be quite unpleasant and for some just downright painful so choose your options carefully. A bikini wax can set you back around R150 depending on the salon.

Laser hair removal:
Easily the most expensive of all options but the results are permanent.  IPL – Intense Pulsed Light laser hair removal can be used on all areas of the body.  Basically it beams highly concentrated light into the hair follicle, pigment in the follicles absorb the light thus destroying it.  One session can be anything from R500 and upward.  Note you’ll need a few sessions to see permanent results.

•    The laser equipment can be adjusted for your colour, thickness and location of your skin.
•    Targets hairs and leaves skin undamaged.
•    90% of people report permanent hair removal.

Epilators
These are really convenient and easy to use.  You can buy them at Clicks and there are many brands available these days.  However, if you new to it you will experience some discomfort and pain.  The rotating heads of the device pluck the hair out from the root much like waxing.  You can pick up one from Clicks for around R1000 depending on the make.

Advantages:
•    Easy to use, non messy.
•    Some are battery operated making them portable.
•    Over time hair grows back less coarse.

So whichever option you decide to go with remember they all have pros and cons and its best to weigh them up before you attempt each various option of hair removal.
