Summer here and it’s hot, hot, hot! Here are some fabulous tips on how to be a summer sizzler and not a melting mess…
No need to have your make-up melt off in the heat, here’s how to keep your ‘face’ on…
1: Ladies, put your fresh face forward this summer – less is more! It’s time to reevaluate your make-up bag and your look. Ditch the dark eye-shadows and rich lipsticks in favour of a fresh and fun look for summer.
2: Make the most of your summer glow and accentuate your glowing skin by ditching your regular heavy(ish) foundation in favour of tinted moisturizer or a light shimmering powder. Wearing foundation in summer can often lead to a melting face-so not a good look.
3: Whether you decide to use a tinted moisturizer, or change your foundation make sure you include one with a SPF in it. Your foundation (summer or winter) should always have a SPF in it but in summer it should be higher.
4: For those who wisely stay out of the sun’s rays but still want that ‘healthy’ summer glow invest in a great bronzer- either liquid or powder. Go for a matte finish for your face and a shimmerier one for eyelids and to accentuate your cheekbones and will make you look ‘naturally’ tanned. Don’t forget to brush some on your shoulders and collarbone for that sun-kissed look!
5: In summer you are bound to perspire and your face will look a bit shiny so embrace it! It’s a fight you will not win so go for that shimmer-and-glow look by swiping on a little highlighter along your cheekbones.
6: Take your eye-make a notch down for summer and try a light shimmering cream-to-powder eye shadow in natural shades (beiges) just under your brow bone to draw attention to your eyes and open them up! Hot colours for summer nights also include all shades of purple- from violet to mauve!
7: Switch your regular mascara to waterproof to avoid the ‘Racoon’ look and it won’t break down in high temperatures. Remember to go easy on applying to bottom lashes as they tend to smudge in the heat. Waterproof mascara is great for lazy days at the beach or pool and it helps when perspiring in the heat! Invest in a great eye make-up remover too because waterproof mascara can be hard to remove!
8: For that natural summer glow finish off your look with natural lips. Ditch the deep, rich burgundies and purples of winter and keep it girly with natural tones for the day! Swop your trusty lip gloss for tinted lip balm instead. Its high wax content makes it more sweat-repellent than gloss or lipstick and it will protect your lips from the sun (make sure it has a SPF in it) and for those sultry summer nights- red lippy is still the winner!
Wanna keep your locks luscious, shiny and healthy during summer? Here’s how:
1: The summer sunshine’s rays can be harsh on hair so be sure to deep condition your hair at least once a week with a rich hair mask, especially if you are beach babe or like to spend lots of time at the pool. Hair can become dry, dull and brittle if it is soaked and dried too often.
2: If you are spending lots of time in water your hair can become damaged from chlorine and salt water. Try spritzing some leave-in-conditioner in your hair for extra protection
3: Make use of the sun’s rays if you are outdoors and want to spice up your hair on the cheap. Comb lemon juice through your hair and the sun will lighten your locks and give you a gorgeous sun-streaked look.
4: Ditch your hairdryer and trusty hair iron (yes, put down the GHD!) in summer and go au-natural! Use the summer as a time for a ‘hair holiday’ away from the constant heat of your normal hair routine. Leave your hair curly- the sea’s salt water will make your hair curl into fabulous summery waves. Glamarama!
