L’Occitane

L’Occitane is a French producer of face and body beauty products. The name of the brand literally means ‘woman from Occitania’ which is a region in the south of France. The significance of this is that the brand looks to traditional tried and tested beauty methods, procedures and products from this region.

In 1976, a 23 year old Olivier Baussan made essential oils by using steam distillation of rosemary and lavender. He sold this in open-markets under the name L’Occitane. By 1978, he opened his first boutique and also took over a soap making factory to make soap using traditional methods. He grew from there and now the brand employs over 6000 people around the world.

L’Occitane products are varied and they include fragrances, hair care, bath and shower products, body and hands, face care and men’s grooming products among others. All products are made with the L’Occitane values in mind. The ingredients used are sourced from nature and are developed to provide the best results possible. Also, they take into consideration traditional beauty ingredients that had been used for many years previously and developed these into the L’Occitane products we know today.

When it comes to the products produced by L’Occitane they keep the following values in mind when developing any products: Authenticity and Naturalness, Effectiveness and Pleasure and Respect and Responsibility.

L’Occitane is also involved in charity work through the La Fondation d’Entreprise L’Occitane. It was established in 2006 and helps visually impaired people as well as the economic emancipation of women. Most of this work is conducted in Burkina Faso.
