MAC Cosmetics was founded in 1984 by Frank Angelo. The cosmetics range was originally created for professional makeup artisits, but soon was so popular amongst the public it was sold to all consumers worldwide.
The cosmetics line was created for professionals that needed to rely heavily on stage makeup, heavy make and cake makeup. It was intended for photo shoots, runway models and effects for bright lighting. At this point novice makeup artists could work their own effects without having to use stage makeup. MAC is lighter than stage makeup, as most products are oil free thus creating a more realistic look.
Estee Lauder took over controlling interest in 1998 when Frank Angelo passed away due to surgery complications.
In 2011 DC Comics heroine, Wonder Woman and MAC Cosmetics teamed up to create a Wonder Woman makeup range produced by MAC. Previously MAC has teamed up with Hello Kitty, Barbie and other Disney characters to produce makeup lines that sold out very quickly due to the popular demand.
MAC Cosmetics is also well known for being Cruelty Free Beauty. Their policy is not to test on animals unless absolutely mandated by law. MAC also has a program “MAC Kids”. This program started in 1994 and involves children living with HIV/AIDS. These children create images that are later produced as greeting cards. 100% of the selling amount goes to the funding of MAC Kids.
MAC offers a range of makeup including blushes, eye shadows, brushes, foundations, lipsticks, skin care and many more products.
