Makeup Faux Pas To Avoid

Looking good with makeup is difficult for some of us and most of us working gals don’t have a glam squad following us around everywhere we go.  So learning not to look like a hot mess in public is vital lesson to be learnt.  There are a few make up faux pas that you need to steer clear of so you don’t scare your Valentine i.e. Mr Grey off:

1.Overdoing it:
I’ll openly admit to this, I’m guilty of this faux pas.  I remember when I was around 18 or 19 I bought my first blusher.  It was in the sale box at Clicks and I thought what a bargain as I paid something silly like R20!  It was a very deep and rather bright pink.  I had very little experience at the time and proceeded to apply this without using a blusher brush.  I also didn’t apply this in a naturally lit room and ended up looking like a clown.  Did I mention I only realised this when I got to my student job as a waiter and one of my friends remarked that I looked very flushed!  Oh the horror.  Moral of the story: Always apply makeup in the most natural light as one can get heavy handed.

2.Foundation not matching your skin tone
I still see this quite a bit and feel like I need to stop those women and advise them that they walking around with 2 tone skin.  This is not a good look for anyone.  Its best to get assistance from a sales person at a cosmetics counter when trying to match a foundation.  Having a friend with to help is also not a bad idea.  Lots of women don’t realise that they need to apply foundation past their jawline and into the neck to create a seamless look that is blended evenly.

3.Excessive use of powder and concealer
We’ve seen this on celebs many times; let’s just avoid it at all costs.  Excessive use of powder on the face overall not only reveals crows feet and other wrinkles it accentuates it too, which quite frankly we’d much rather forget.  Remember Eva Longoria with powder lines under her eyes?

4.The Jersey Shore tan
The fake orange tan is only acceptable if your name is J-Woww or Snooki.  This is not sexy and there are other options available to achieve the sun kissed look without looking like a pumpkin.

5.Excessively lined lips
This was an acceptable look in the 90’s and your name is not Lil Kim.  Enough said.

We’re not all born with a full pack of Mac makeup brushes in our hands but we can learn from the pros and celebs that’ve gone astray.
