Panasonic Epilator ES-EU20

I regularly wax and shave and have been doing so for years, so I was pretty excited to try epilation since it was brand new for me. Because I'm a newbie, I did my 'research' by asking a friend who epilates and also watching some videos to prepare for my first session. For fellow newbies, an epilator has multiple tweezers that grip your hair and removes them by the root. So it leaves your skin smoother for longer with your hair re-growth being finer.

A nice thing about this product is that you can use it wet or dry. I know I’d appreciate using it in a rush – just when I’ve already started getting ready and then noticing I need a bit of a clean up! So that’s a plus. I tried it dry the first time, then I used it wet. I put a little bit of shower gel onto it and it lathered nicely onto my skin which made it easier to move up my legs so I definitely preferred it wet. I have to say it is quite painful, but I’ve been assured by a friend who regularly epilates that’s because it was my first time, and it will get easier. I’m seeing it like threading my brows – I’m so used to it now.

For a first timer, it was really easy to use. All you have to do is angle it at 90 degrees to your skin and roll it against the hair growth. I gently exfoliated my legs before with my exfoliating gloves as I’m prone to ingrown hairs. I then used some Aloe Vera gel afterwards to soothe my skin and so far, no bumps! I did have to go over certain areas a couple of times to make sure I got all of the hairs. But by the second time going over an area, the pain was much less. I would’ve liked for it to have another setting, just to be able to do more sensitive areas like my underarms but for the legs, I think it worked well. It comes with a handy little brush to really get in there when cleaning it afterwards.

I tried the Panasonic Wet/Dry Epilator for the first time a week ago. I epilated my arms, because I have neglected them for a while now. I used the Panasonic Wet/Dry epilator on my arms. I opted for the wet method, because I was curious about it. The 'wet' method is pretty cool. All you do is run the epilator under water, do the same for the area you would like to epilate (the arm in my case), & then you place a dollop of your favourite shower gel in there & it starts to foam up - very cool I won't lie. So, other than the 'wet method' I also tried the dry method which I found to be a little more painful than using it wet.

Pain...
This is a painful hair removal method when compared to shaving or hair remover cream - but it is effective. And really the pain is only about 5 out of 10, which is more like a pinch.

Why I like epilating...
I like this method of hair removal because it is similar to waxing in the sense that it takes much more time for your hair to grow back as opposed to shaving or hair removal cream. This is such a bonus because that means you don't have to worry about that area of your body for a while. I also believe the epilator is bang for your buck, because it will last you years. Once you charge the epilator for 15 hours, you're good to go for a long while.

The Panasonic Wet/Dry 3-in-1 Epilator also comes with a detachable shaver head, which I tried on my legs. This function is basically that of an electric shaver. Fun right? Fun indeed for me. I really enjoyed the electric shaver function because I could dry shave.

So I've tried all the other forms of hair removal in my beauty history: shaving, lasering, waxing, threading and I can safely say that NONE of them are pain free (well, maybe shaving if you don't knick yourself!)

Unfortunately epilating is not pain free either.

In fact the first time I applied it to my skin all manner of swear words came spilling forth. BUT I pushed through the pain and tried again a few days later and with a bit of "Dutch courage".

Again it wasn't exactly a walk in the park! But it definitely got better and easier to bear, especially after I got a few tips from those brave enough to do this on a regular basis.

The epilator is basically a set of tiny, revolving tweezers that remove hair from the root. I'm told that the pain gets far easier to bear and that the long term benefits of having to de-fuzz less regularly and softer hair regrowth combined with the cost savings of this form of hair-removal make it all worth it.

What I loved: Well I haven't yet been using it for very long (only 1 week), but I think the convenience of having hair-free legs for a couple of weeks would be quite a win especially over summer.

What I loathed: The pain, oh the pain! I also found that I had to go over areas a few times to get most of the hair to be removed which took quite a lot of time.

Would I do it again: I'll be pushing through the pain on this one for a while longer to see if the promises of it getting easier are true. The promise of a #SmoothSummer is too tempting to pass up without putting in a good effort.... As they say "no pain, no gain"!
