Beauty Sleep Monsters!

Don’t you hate when you toss and turn all night knowing that you have a rough day tomorrow, but you just can’t get that much needed beauty sleep? Here are 5 common sleep guzzlers! Environment. Noise can seriously deprive one of much needed sleep!

If you have neighbours that keep you awake at night, invest in a pair of ear plugs so that you can enjoy a peaceful nights rest. Make sure your mattress is firm and that it supports your back comfortably.
Also, a stuffy room will not lend itself to a good nights rest, so make sure there is sufficient ventilation. A cool, peaceful spot is what you need to really enjoy your sleep.

Stress Learn to switch off when your head hits the pillows. Keep a small notepad beside your bed to jot down anything that you may want to remember in the morning – Then let it go. Tomorrow is another day.

Nicotine. Try not to smoke for at least 4 hrs before you hit the sack. Nicotine is a stimulant, and takes time to work its way through your system.
Alcohol
. Although alcohol may seem to calm ones nerves, but it is actually a stimulant and will give you a restless nights sleep. So if you want to feel truly rested the next day, avoid alcohol late at night. It disrupts brain patterns.
Caffeine. Need we say more on this? Caffeine stays in your system for 9 hrs, so avoid it after 2pm…. Did you know? If you are not getting enough sleep during the week, say you are sleeping on average an hr or so less than you should Monday to Thursday, then by Friday you will have built up a sleep debt of 4 hrs. This could be dangerous on a Friday night, if you are driving and your evening involves alcohol! Most people will make up for their sleep deprivation in the week by sleeping in on a Saturday or by having a lekker Sunday afternoon snooze! Mmmmm….
