The Best Eyebrows For Your Face Shape

We’ve all witnessed it… The over-plucked, the unkempt and the badly drawn on pair of eyebrows – none of which are particularly flattering for any face shape. Truth is, eyebrows can either make or break your look. The shape of your eyebrows can change how your face shape looks; accentuate your best features and take years off your face. But, with so many options, how do you know which eyebrow shape is right for you? Below is a guide on how to get the perfect eyebrow for your face shape:

Square-Shaped Face
With a square-shaped face, the forehead, cheekbones and jaw line all about the same width. The squared jaw line is the most obvious feature.

What you want to do with this face shape is balance this strong feature out with a strong eyebrow. It’s best to make your eyebrows complement your face instead of contrasting with it. A thicker stronger colour and eyebrow shape balances a heavier jaw line.

Use the widest angle of the jaw line as your guide. The peak of the eyebrow should be aligned at this point to balance out the strong jaw line. A defined sharp peak at the top of the eyebrow makes the eyebrow appear stronger.

A thick eyebrow is best achieved by waxing or eyebrow threading. The result is natural and neat, but not overly defined.

Round-Shaped Face
A round-shaped face is almost as wide as it is long. This face shape is widest at the cheeks.

What you want to do with this face shape is make the roundness appear less prominent by making the face appear longer. To achieve this look, a high arched eyebrow is recommended. The high peak opens the eyes vertically to elongate the face. The arch should be created as high as possible.

Tweezing is the best bet when trying to create that high arched look for a round face. It is also the better option if you are after a more sculptured look as it offers a more precise finish by removing hair strands individually.

Long-Shaped Face
With a long-shaped face, the forehead, cheekbones and jaw line are all about the same width. This face shape has an elongated appearance and the chin tends to be prominent.

What you want to do with this face shape is make the long face appear shorter. Flat, straight eyebrows with a low arch are recommended for this face shape. This helps to open up the face sideways.

This look is best achieved by waxing or threading.

Oval-Shaped Face
With an oval-shaped face, the forehead is wider than the chin, the cheekbones are prominent and the face tapers to a narrow oval chin.

Oval-shaped faces are considered the ideal face shape as they can handle most eyebrow types. Because of the proportionate shape, it’s easy to pull off a variety of eyebrow shapes.

A soft angled eyebrow shape is considered the ideal brow shape and would work beautifully with this face shape.

Tweezing is recommended on an oval-shaped face.

Heart-Shaped Face
A heart-shaped face is similar to an oval-shaped face, but the chin tapers to a point.

What you want to do with this face shape is soften the pointed chin and create a natural look while accentuating your best features. A low arched, round eyebrow will do the trick. The curve of the round eyebrow is soft, feminine and attractive.

If you want to add length to a short eyebrow, create a high arched round eyebrow shape.

Achieve and maintain this natural look by tweezing the hairs where and when needed.
