Three Winter-Proof Weave Hairstyles We Love

A good weave is my kryptonite. Versatile, easy to style and quick to install, who wouldn’t opt for 26 inches of Peruvian-straight over having to sit being braided for a painstaking eight hours?

That said, when the fog, rain and all things frigid descend, having to protectively style can be taxing, and, unless you’re a supernova at doing it DIY, it’s best to leave it to the experts and pay your hairdresser a visit. Either way, here are my top three reasonably low-maintenance winter-proof weaves…

1.    CLOSURES

Alternate between a middle and side part? A U-part closure ought to be your go-to for full hair protection except for the section of leave-out hair you’re trying to blend in with your extensions.

THE TREND: Sleek, long, black and straight OR a wavy lob.

TRY: Nywella Virgin Hair Sew-ins Closures (From R690; Contact 0812565840 for stockists)

2. CLIP-INS

Throw caution to wind and simply clip it in. Unlike sew-in options, this option allows you the luxury of a thorough wash.

THE TREND: Mermaid blue clip-ins a la Kylie Jenner. If your hair is virgin, or unprocessed, you can dye to any colour.

TRY: Bone straight and thick, Vietnamese hair contains twelve cuticles, the same amount present in African hair making blending undetectable. Try DIVYA Vietnamese Hair (from R1600 for a full head; www.humanhairtraders.com).

3.    PICK ‘N DROP

A great option for naturalistas or BB’s on a budget, a pick and drop style is similar to braids in that hair is plaited for about 2cm, knotted, and then “dropped”.

THE TREND: 90s half up-do.

TRY: FRIKA Hot Fibre Ombre Braid (R25.95 at Clicks stores.)
